Leeward Community Church - A Pearl City church that opened its doors and its stage

"Reminder about speaking at Leeward Community Church, 1860 Komo Mai Dr, Pearl City, next Sunday, July 20, from 9.30 am to 10.30 am." Sarah Budd, Explicit Movement, July 9, 2025

The congregation

Leeward Community Church meets in Pearl City on the leeward side of O'ahu and serves a multi-generational congregation that knows its neighborhood. The church carries the kind of ohana culture that does not require pretense and does not need a guest speaker to perform. When the right voice walks in, the room knows.

Speaking at Leeward, July 2025

Michele was invited to speak at the Sunday service on July 20, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 am. The invitation came through Pastor Jay-in and the Leeward team, with Sarah Budd of Explicit Movement coordinating from Michele's side. The original date was July 27 and the calendar moved a week earlier. Michele preached the Sunday service to the gathered congregation.

What Michele brought into the Leeward room is the same teaching arc that runs through her coaching, her speaking, and the Brave & Beautiful and Brave & Bold curriculum she has shipped from Hawai'i into school and church communities nationally. Identity rooted in being chosen and loved. Value not as a performance metric but as a settled inheritance. The work of becoming brave enough to live both at once.

Hosting the November conference

The deeper partnership came later that fall. When Explicit Movement put together the November 14 and 15, 2025 Brave & Bold Youth + Parent Conference, Leeward Community Church carried the venue. The Friday-night Youth + Parent session and the Saturday Leaders Workshop both ran from the Leeward campus.

Hosting a free, multi-church coalition event at a venue of that size is real work for the host church. Leeward did it. The Pearl City address became the gathering point that weekend for youth, parents, pastors, and youth leaders pulled from dozens of O'ahu congregations.

The outcome

The Leeward partnership did two things for Michele's work. It put her teaching in front of the Leeward Sunday congregation in summer 2025, where the work landed in the warmth that comes from being received without performance. And it gave the November coalition conference the right room, the right host, and the right ohana to carry the weekend.

For the church, the partnership is the kind of inside-the-network sharing that strengthens a congregation's witness to its neighborhood and to the broader O'ahu faith community.
