Hawaiʻi Catholic Schools - From a keynote to a statewide Brave Series conversation

The Organization

Hawaiʻi Catholic Schools is a statewide network of campuses led by Superintendent Dr. Llewellyn Young. Their annual gathering is a unique and powerful event, bringing together staff from every Catholic campus across the islands into a single room. This convergence makes it the ideal venue to introduce new initiatives and resources to the entire network at once.

The Engagement

Initial Connection: The working relationship began after Michele met in person with Superintendent Dr. Young.

Keynote & Workshops: In 2024, Michele and Nancy co-delivered the keynote address at the annual all-staff gathering, Mass of the Holy Spirit. Michele also led dedicated workshops on nurturing creativity in the classroom and empowering students to dream big for their lives during the 2024 event and returned to lead them again in 2025.

Ongoing Support: Since these initial engagements, Superintendent Young has remained a supporter of the Brave Series.

The Outcome

A New Partnership: An exciting new collaboration is currently forming with Dr. Brandy Ann Sato, Principal of Sacred Hearts Academy, an all-girls Catholic school in Honolulu.

Spring 2027 Conference: Michele and Dr. Sato are actively planning a Brave & Beautiful conference scheduled for the spring of 2027.

Community Impact: This gathering is being built as a community-wide Oʻahu event. It will be open to Catholic leaders, educators, and parents, and widened to include the broader community and state educators to raise awareness for the Brave Series and directly empower all attendees.

Future Vision: Michele hopes this conference marks a beautiful beginning to a long-term journey of supporting students across Hawaiʻi's Catholic Schools.
