The Organization
Hale Kipa is a well established and well reputed Hawaiʻi nonprofit serving young people in crisis. Among its programs is a girls' residential home for high-at-risk youth, where the girls live on site and the staff carry them through the hardest stretch of their lives. Venus Rosete Medeiros is the organization's President.
The Engagement
Michele worked with Venus Rosete Medeiros on the girls' residential home. The residential program uses the Brave & Beautiful volumes as an empowerment resource for the girls in its care. Michele has also gone in and done small-group work with the girls directly, on dreaming big for their lives with brave purpose. Small groups are the right format for this room: a keynote would not reach girls who have learned to keep their distance from adults with microphones.
The Outcome
Brave & Beautiful is in ongoing use inside the residential program rather than sitting on a shelf, and Michele's relationship with Hale Kipa continues.
